Weld Mold® 606

A premium cobalt base wear-facing alloy designed to withstand severe impact at elevated temperatures. Hardness and strength is maintained to temperatures of 1200º F and higher for short time exposures. Scaling resistance is excellent up to 1900º F. Weld Mold 606 provides excellent resistance in applications involving, metal to metal wear, oxidation, thermal cycling and impact in corrosive environments at high temperatures. 606 will also develop a high polish while in use.

Applications

Hot work tools including trimming dies, punches, shear blades, press forging dies, extrusion dies, and mandrels. Other parts that render themselves to this alloy include: conveyer rolls, tong bits, valves, valve seats, mill guides, and impeller parts.

Procedure

Remove all foreign material, fatigued metal, and any sharp radii. On mild steels a pre-heat of 350°F is recommended. On higher alloy steels you must pre-heat according to base metal composition, the type of weld, and the amount of deposit. Low alloy steels may be put into service in the as-welded condition. Heat treatable steels should be tempered at 1000º F for 4 to 6 hours then cooled in still air.
